All About Greek Wine participated in the 6th annual Washington, DC International Wine and Food Festival on March 12-13, 2005. The festival, sponsored by The Washington Post, attracted over 2400 people from the wine and food trade, an increase of 53% over last year. Another 8000 wine-lovers came from as far away as the Carolinas, Virginia and Maryland to attend the jam-packed Washington Convention Center. Long lines of oenofiles could be seen surrounding the All About Greek Wine pavilion during the 2 day festival where enthusiasm for The Greek Wine Renaissance was evident everywhere. Those sampling these modern style Greek wines, many for the first time, were impressed with these world-class wines. Wine afficianados were especially excited at the vast assortment of Greek indigenous grape varieties that offer a large range of alternatives to the standard international varieties being produced all over the world.
All About Greek Wine is a joint venture of the 23 top wineries of Greece that have joined forces to present the modern face of Greek wine to the North American market. Wines from each of the group’s members were on display and represent all of the major winemaking regions and native grape varieties of Greece. During the first day of the festival All About Greek Wine presented a seminar entitled, "Experience the Greek Wine Renaissance". Sofia Perpera, Director of All About Greek Wine was joined by Marguerite Thomas, senior editor of the Wine News and a recent visitor to the Greek vineyards, on the seminar panel.
The Friday prior to the festival, All About Greek Wine sponsored a sold-out elegant 4-course wine dinner at well-known Blackie’s Restaurant near downtown DC. The finishing touches to a spectacular weekend of wine was at the popular DC restaurant, Zaytinya, on the following Monday as wines from the members of All About Greek Wine were presented in a walk-around tasting accompanied by an assortment of delicious tapas from Zaytinya’s award winning chef.
The members of All About Greek Wine will go on the road during the next 3 months with events planned for Toronto, New York, Orlando, Las Vegas, Chicago and Aspen.
